Three String Chord!

Saturday night marked the debut performance of Three String Chord, a new folk-rock trio of myself, Tom Hipps and Craig Larson. Despite our longstanding friendship, shared musical interests, and sweet harmonizing sound, we were unable to come up with any decent promotional materials in time for the show, so we were stuck with this:

The finest promotional material yet known to man.

Tom did the illustrations, and I feel he did a particularly fine job in capturing the whimsical essence of Craig. I made him add angry eyebrows to my portait to reflect my fury after he missed a cue during our breathtaking performance the Eagles classic, “Peaceful, Easy Feeling”.

Pure hilarity.

This is us being hilarious, obviously. I’m not sure what the look on my face is about, but I’m going to work hard to never make that expression again.

The performing arts.

Here we are performing our music by playing instruments and singing simultaneously. It took no small amount of rehearsal and patient demonstration by Tom and Craig for me to accomplish this.

Sepia melodies.

This photograph is in sepia tone, which makes you emotional.

Also, please note that the music stand in the foreground was not there for help with lyrics or chords. Craig’s been reading Twilight and has been unable to set it down.

Sound and fury.

I have a beard in this picture.

Thanks to all of you who came out to the show. It’s always a thrill to play for a packed (coffee)house, and it was rewarding to receive so many warm compliments on the music after the show. Also, the three of us went to Don Pablos when we were done, and I had a kick-ass Chimichanga.

In the coming weeks, I’ll post some video or sound clips for those of you who are interested. Otherwise, keep an eye on our Myspace page (or Facebook group) for upcoming shows and come check us out!

The promo pic look like Tom with the whole angel on one shoulder, devil on the other telling him how to make decisions.

“This photograph is in sepia tone, which makes you emotional”.. HA! I didn’t put up the black and white ones yet. What do those make you? Nostalgic?

I’ve got some videos I’ll put up later as well.
This is probably the greatest muscial colaboration since the three tenors and I look forward to more performances.
I love that you guys sang “Save Me”. That’s my favorite song by you.

Thanks, Sarah. That’s a nice compliment. I look forward to the videos – can you email me once they’re up so I can check them out?

  3. Sarah says:

Sure, my work computer won’t let me upload so hopefully I can get to a wireless spot sometime tonight and upload from my laptop.

Also, Fogelberg! Just a suggestion. I think you guys would do “Leader of the Band” great.

It would be cool to be able to see into the future and find out which one of us eventually ruins everything by announcing, “I’m leaving the group”.

Nice choice of pictures and wordful content, Peter. Someone saw my new Facebook profile pic (which is my face cropped out by itself from the hilarious picture) and told me that I should put up a “more attractive one”. So, I take it that I look ugly when I’m ecstatic, having a great time and filled with joy – which does include putting on a goofy face?!?! Gee, thanks!

  6. kevin s. says:

Yeah, I asked you guys if you wanted to go to Don Pablos, and you sort of laughed as though I was being ironic. I sort of laughed too, and dropped the subject, but I really wanted to hang out. Yep, I really did…

  7. Jesse says:

The illustration of Craig is so life like. Especially the pinky growing out of his wrist. I thought it was simply a photoshop piece of mastery.

  8. Thom says:

I am a bit embarrassed. Tom’s work looks a heck like what I was about to send in for your approval, Peter…starting over…
