The Decline of Family Circus

My brief 3-day vacation was ruined while reading the comics on Sunday morning.

Can somebody explain to me what the hell this is about?
Family Sadness

Is there a joke here that I’m not getting? Little Jeffy is busy working hard at building a sandcastle, and the cruel sea crushes it - along with all his hopes and dreams - causing him to cry. The end. Let me tell you people, that’s some fine comedy. Nothing clever or witty to add, just the general sadness of children is apparently enough for a Family Circus punchline nowdays.

Maybe next Sunday’s comic could simply be a two-panel depiction of gang violence leading to the death of a police officer.

    LOL! I hate Family Circus!

It’s a commentary on life, showing the dark futility of it all. I think, upon close inspection, if you note the line of the waves form the words “Jill Yourself”. I’ve always believed the Family Circus was an instrument of Satan to bring down the good people of America.

OK so I just laughed so hard I spit coffee out and everyone in the cafe stared at me. Thanks.

I guess Family Circus is just one of those comics geared towards Satanists. After all, they would find it comical.

Why does the background this comic is printed on look like flesh? Is this a tattoo?

You had this comic tattooed on your substantial butt, didn’t you?

I know its early, but you just made my day. I was in a super-crabby mood due to crap going on at work, and this made me laugh out loud, it was so funny! (Consequently, I happened to be on the phone with a lady from North Minneapolis, trying to find her some rental assistance and help with an electric bill when I laughed out loud… but still!) :)

Have you ever blogged about Fred Bassett?

  8. karlquick Says:

My favorite part about him, is the punch line isn’t really a punch line.

    LMAO!!

  10. Thom Says:

That should be “Kill Yourself”…because I have no idea what diabolical message would lie behind the the phrase “Jill Yourself”.

Yeah, I commented on Fred Bassett last year.

FYI: I googled the guy who created Fred Basset. He died in 1991, and he was Scottish. So, there’s his excuse.

  13. Shae Says:

I do have to agree that being Scottish does give him an excuse. It’s a whole different kind of humor ball game out there. I really think he was just trying to make a buck with the least amount of effort possible.

  14. Uosdwis R. Jawoh Says:

Unfortunately for Family Circus creator, Bil Keane, he is from Philidelphia. So he has no excuse.

  15. Roger Says:

FYI, Jill Yourself was much funnier than Kill Yourself.
